Formed in September, 1998, the group consists of Ralph Jeffers (Vocals; Mandolin; Guitar), John Sheets (Vocals; Accordion;
Guitar), and Craig Small (Vocals; Fiddle; Mandolin; Guitar), three songwriters with the sole desire to "write some songs,
and sing 'em at folks"
The combination of complimentary personalities & musical tastes lead the three to christen themselves the Punkin Holler
Boys. Each member adopted stage monikers: Ralph is Ralph Ed Hadley, John is Spidey Jack Hadley and Craig is Slim Hadley. The
ensuing mythos of Punkin Holler involves fans & family in a convoluted, sometimes goofy tale of the goings-on down in
the Holler. The Boys music is rooted in Country/Bluegrass/Cajun/Folk traditions, with a smattering of WoodPunk & Pythonesque
silliness thrown in for good measure.
Seeking a performance outlet, the Boys contacted Chubby's Club LaSalle owner Chubby Wadsworth, a long-time advocate of
local original music, and began playing there the 3rd Friday of every month in January of '99. The unexpected closing of the
Club Lasalle in early 2004, moved the third friday of the month event to the Melody Inn.
The Punkin Holler Boys were voted "Best Local Country Band, 2000" in that year's Nuvo's Readers Poll & were featured
in an article in Nuvo that year. They have played at Chubby's, The Elbow Room, Zanies' Too, Muggsy's, Birdy's The Microbrewers'
Fest, the Stutz Artist Tour, Hoosier Hilly Hundred, and Mid West Music Summit '02, '03, and '04 among other venues and
events. Their music is currently in rotation on the "Fields of Bluegrass" radio show, heard weekly on WICR 88.7 here in Indianapolis,
and they have a song on the "Indy MP3" project.
In the past six years they've written, recorded, and produced six of their own projects, and been able to help out on several
other local recordings.
